Cheekbone Surgery

Cheekbones are what give shape to your cheeks and outer contours of the face; prominent or elevated cheekbones contribute to a natural and youthful appearance. A Malarplasty, or cheek lift, can be done to restore the round, fresh-faced appearance of youth. Cheek lifts are also used to minimize the creases around the mouth, lift the corners of the mouth, and smooth out the skin under the eyes.

Malarplasty can be done by itself or in conjunction with other facial procedures.

It’s important to consult with your doctor about the procedure. It may not be for everyone, but for a lot of people, the right cheek lift can dramatically improve the appearance and contour of the face.

The surgery usually involves inserting a small implant.

The Procedure

The surgery usually involves inserting a small implant, carefully chosen in size and shape to adapt to each patient’s singular case, through a small incision inside the mouth. However, different techniques using fat transfer, silicone, and injectable fillers are also available.

The surgery takes around 2 hours to complete, and most patients go home the same day of the surgery. Swelling, numbness, and slight pain are common after the operation. Each patient is different, but after 3 to 4 weeks most patients are able to return to their normal, everyday activities. Plenty of rest, fluids, and keeping the head elevated are important post-op care instructions. This means sleeping for the first few days on a recliner or a bed propped up with pillows to avoid bad swelling.
