Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is often suggested for the treatment of the very fine lines found around the mouth, as well as acne scars and other delicate marks that can’t be treated with harsher methods.

The procedure works by eliminating the most superficial layers of the skin, which will scab over during the recovery process, and afterwards reveal smooth, tender skin. It is imperative that the patient abstain from too much exposure to the sun during this time, so that once the healing process has been completed the resulting skin will be completely clear and smooth.

This procedure can be done with local anesthesia with sedation or with general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the area in need of treatment.

Treated areas close to the mouth may require the patient to abstain from solid foods during the first few days in order the keep it completely immobile.
